About the Author

Andrew has been living and developing climbs in Coopers Rock and the rest of the Cheat Canyon for 12 years. Having a strong preference for bigwall trad climbing, but living in an area with a distinct lack thereof, he first focused on established trad and sport routes. Without access to a modern climbing gym, he quickly realized that a shift in focus to bouldering would be the key to success on multi-pitch goals.

After taking one step too close to a rattlesnake while hiking with his family, Andrew spent over a year recovering, during which he finally had the time to compile many years of topos, and published Cheat Canyon Rock, the first comprehensive route guide to the area. Shortly afterwards, still struggling to recover, and unable to work, longtime developer Dylan Griffith had offered to hand over his pdf guides for bouldering in Coopers Rock, giving Andrew the kickstart needed to begin the monumental task of documenting the area’s jumbled mass of boulders. After a full climbing season filling in the gaps and working full-time hours on the document, the bouldering guide was completed. Andrew’s hope is to share the climbing experiences he’s enjoyed in the area with the greater climbing community through these guidebooks.
